Chemistry Matter Cheat Sheet (DRAFT) by

class 8A this is only for memorizing, give credits if u use

This is a draft cheat sheet. It is a work in progress and is not finished yet.

Name out the characteristics of Matter.

1. volume- The matter must occupy space, the space occupied by matter is called volume.
2. Mass- It represents the quantity of matter , which can be found by physical balance..
3. Weight- It represents the pull of gravity, which can found by spring balance.
4. perception by physical senses- It is preceived by our physical senses, eg the sense of touch, sense of hearing etc.

Explain Kinetic Theory of matter

The main postulates of this theory are-
1. All matter is composed of small particles called molucules
2. The particles are in a state of unending motion or continuous motion, hence they have kinetic energy.
3. With the supply of heat energy the kinetic energy of the particles increases and they start moving more vigorously, reverse happens when the the matter is cooled.
4. The particles attract each other :) always, which can be cohesive ( if particles r of same kind) and adhesive ( if particles are of diffrent kinds)
5. The force of attraction between the particles decreases if the intermolecular space, decreases and vice versa.

What are materials , name the kinds of material?

The term used for particular kind of matter is called material.
1. Homogenous materials: The materials which have the same composition and same properties throughout.
examples- pure common salt, and common salt solution
2. Heterogeneous materials- the materials which have different compostions and different properties in their different parts
examples- Marble rock, muddy water

solid on the basis of kinetic theory of matter

The definite shape and definite volume of solids can be explained on the basis of kinetic theory of matter.
In case of solids the kinetic energy of molecules is least and the force of attraction between the molecules is maximum.
The molecules of solids, can vibrate from their mean position but cannot migrate from one position to another.
Examples of solids- wood, brick, logs, ice etc.

What is a substance? give an eg with NACL

A homogenous mixture which is made up of only one kind of atoms is called substance*.
example- sodium chloride is a substance cuz it has 23 parts of sodum and 35.5 parts of chloride by weight in its composition.
similarly, pure alcohol, pure water, pure gold and silver are substances
