Water

Water is the most important subtance for survival after air.
Roughly 4/5 of the Earths surface is covered with water. All plants and animals contain 70% or more water in their bodies.

Liquid state of water

In liquid state of water, most of the water is present in oceans.
The water found on land is known as surface water. Surface water can include rivers, ponds, spring water, streams etc.

Gaseous state of water

Examples of gaseous state of water is mostly water vapour.
During the conden­sation of water vapour, mist, clouds and fog is formed which are also examples of gaseous state of water.
 

Importance of water

1. Water is vital for sustaining plant and animal life.
2. water is essential for cooking food
3. Water is essential for growing food crops.
4. Water is essential for cleaning our bodies externally
5. Water is essential for a large number of heavy indust­ries.
6. Water is essential for thermo­ele­ctric and hydroe­lectric power plants.
7. Bulk transport to other countries is carried through sea water.

Solid state of water

In solid state a large amount of water is found in the form of ice or snow.
Vast regions in Antarctica and Artic circle have frozen water.
In the high peaks of mountains, where perpetual snow occurs also have frozen water.
perpetual snow is the snow which never melts.
Solid forms of water include snow, ice, frost and hail.
 

Water resources

Water occurs in free as well as combined state.
Most of the water occurs in free state.
In free state, water occurs in 3 forms- solid liquid and gas.

Combined state of water

Combined state of water, is the water which is chemically combined with other substa­nces.
Combined state of water is also present in humans. It is vital for humans as we need it for transp­orting nutrients in the body.
Combined state of water can be dry and wet. Dry examples of combined state of water include Anhydrous copper sulphate. Wet examples of combined water include hydrated copper sulphate.
Combined state in water of crysta­lli­sation includes hydrated copper sulphate and washing soda.
