In English, am, is, and are all have the same meaning. They all mean to be. However, the form (conju­gation) changes depending on the person that the verb is used with.

Each of the words above mean to be (= être in French). It's just that the conjug­ation changes based on the word in front of it (i.e., the person).

The definite article in the plural is always les


While there is no indefinite plural article in English, in French the articles des is always used.

Je is abbrev­­iated to j' when it comes before verbs that begin with a vowel or an h.
