Used as first line treatment in type 2 diabetes

GI distress

Lactic Acidosis (BBW)

Elderly >80 at increased risk

Signs & Symptoms
Abdominal pain, Rapid shallow breathing, fatigue, etc.

Contrast Medium
Vitamin B12
Folic Acid
 

Nursing Interv­entions

Monitor for weight loss
DC 48 hours before an after contrast dye is admini­stered
May be used to prevent DM (espec­ially in obese patients.)
Monitor renal function
