A roundup of what happened in October - new cheat sheets, site changes and the first member of the month!
What a month it's been! The site is less than two weeks old and already there are new cheat sheets popping up faster than my printer can keep up!
What's New?
There have been plenty of changes since launch, mostly as a result of your feedback. Here's what's new and what's improved:
- There's a blog!
- You can now use your Facebook and Twitter accounts to log into Cheatography!
- RSS feeds are available for the blog and latest cheat sheets!
- PDFs are finally working well.
- The old "collection"-based system for building cheat sheets is gone, replaced by something quicker and easier.
- There are arrows for reordering cheat sheet items, in addition to the drag-and-drop.
New Cheat Sheets!
Cheatography was built to encourage the creating and sharing of cheat sheets, and so far that seems to be working wonderfully! There are five new cheat sheets in just over a week of running, and they're great! In case you missed them, they are:
3ds Max 2012 by mollick2
A great start to the project, the first cheat sheet released on the site was a reference for 3ds Max 2012 (top-notch 3D modeling, animation, and rendering software).
Linux Command Line by DaveChild
The second release is a reference for the Linux command line. This one was by me, and was based, as usual for me, on various bits of paper scattered around my workspaces.
Weights and Measures by SpaceDuck
This one is going on my fridge! SpaceDuck's first cheat sheet of October is an excellent run down of imperial and metric weights and measures and their conversions.
Hausa by mojaam
The second language cheat sheet, this Hausa cheat sheet introduced me to a language I never even knew existed, even though it's spoken by upwards of 40 million people! Hausa is one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa, and this cheat sheet is a top notch Hausa-English reference.
Countries and their Capital Cities by SpaceDuck
The last cheat sheet in October, and the second from the awesome SpaceDuck, is one for the geography nerds. Not only is it packed with every capital of the world, but it even includes US state capitals and similar for Russia and Canada!
Member of the Month
I want to give as much back as I can to the people that contribute their time and expertees, whether that's through building cheat sheets, leaving comments or helping other people out. So every month I want to highlight the efforts of someone in the community who has put in that extra little bit of effort and made Cheatography a better place with their involvement.
The community is small now, but growing, and there have been several people who have taken time to give feedback, suggestions, bug reports and testing. They are all wonderful. Among them, one person stood out - sending more bugs and more ideas than I knew what to do with - and so our first member of the month is the wonderful wattslevi! My thanks to them and everybody else who has helped the site in its first days.
So That's October
And what a great way to start things off! I can't wait to see what November brings ...
