INCREASED INTRACRANIAL PRESSURE
Increased ICP is life threatening. |
Increased ICP can be caused by three components in the skull, brain tissue, cerebral spinal fluid, and blood flow. |
The Monro-Kellie doctrine says that changes in those three self regulating aspects in the skull can cause an increase in ICP |
Cerebral Edema
Vasogenic |
The movement of intravascular fluid to extravascular fluid, which increase extracellular volume. |
Cytotoxic |
This is the disruption in cell membrane function. |
Interstitial |
is increased fluid in the tissue. |
Cerebral edema is the swelling of the brain. This edema can cause an increase in ICP.
