INCREASED INTRAC­RANIAL PRESSURE

Increased ICP is life threat­ening.
Increased ICP can be caused by three components in the skull, brain tissue, cerebral spinal fluid, and blood flow.
The Monro-­Kellie doctrine says that changes in those three self regulating aspects in the skull can cause an increase in ICP

Cerebral Edema

Vasogenic
The movement of intrav­ascular fluid to extrav­ascular fluid, which increase extrac­ellular volume.
Cytotoxic
This is the disruption in cell membrane function.
Inters­titial
is increased fluid in the tissue.
Cerebral edema is the swelling of the brain. This edema can cause an increase in ICP.
