Offending statistics

- Black people are 7x more likely to be stopped and searched than white (Ministry of Justice 2009-10)
- Asian people are 2x as likely to be stopped and searched
- Overall number of arrests in the UK decreased by 3% from 2005-2010, but the number of arrests of -black people rose by 5% and Asian people by 13%!
- Black people were 3x more likely to be arrested than white in 2010
- Bowling and Phillips (2006) - Crown Prosec­ution Service more likely to drop cases involving black suspects, suggesting police charge black people more frequently based on inadequate evidence
- In 2013, black people made up 3.1% of the population but 14.2% of stop and searches. Asians made up 6.4% of the population but 10.3% of stop and searches
- Despite news headlines, offending rates among eastern european commun­ities were in line with the population (Assoc­iation of Chief Police Officers 2008)

Victim­isation statistics

- Adults from black, Asian and mixed ethnic groups are more at risk of being a victim of personal crime than white people e.g. black people 5x more likely to be murdered than white (CSEW 2012-13)
- This has been consistent since 2008-9 for adults from black and mixed ethnic groups
- This has been consistent since 2010-11 for adults from Asian ethnic groups
- Inter-­racial crime (offending by one ethnic group against another) - racially or religi­ously aggravated offences recorded by police decreased between 2005-2010
- Intra-­racial crime (offending against someone of the same ethinic group) - Home office evidence: one in three gun murders, both offender and victim are black
