AAC |
Designed to be the successor of the MP3 format. AAC is commonly used for stereo sound i.e. 2-channel audio |
Dolby Digital/AC3 |
Most common multi-channel format. 6 channel 5.1 format means that it uses 5 speakers and one subwoofer to play audio. |
DTS |
Similar to AC3. |
TrueHD |
Dolby’s successor to AC3. Is lossless and supports eight channels. |
DTS-HD MA |
DTS's successor. It's lossless and supports eight channels. |
