Amebiasis Treatment

5-nitr­oim­idazole deriv. Prodrug.
8-hydroxy quinolines (oxines)
MOA: The nitro gets reduced by ferrodoxin reductase and that forms hydrox­ylamino and ROS which damage the M.O.
MOA: the 8-OH gp forms coordinate bond and chelates metal to act on M.O.
 
Used in combin­ation with other amebic­ides.
 

Chemot­herapy of helminthic infections

Niclosamide
Mebendazole
Albendazole
MOA: Inhibit worm glucose uptake or protein synthesis.
class: Benzim­idazole
class: Benzim­idazole
Uses: Taenicide
MOA: Irreve­rsible blocking of glucose uptake.
MOA: Prodrug orally activated in liver into albend­azole sulfoxide.
   
Invivo: propylthio group is converted into sulfoxide gp.
For flatworms or nematodes.
 

Anti-s­cabies & anti-p­edi­cular agents

Benzyl benzoate
Precip­itated sulfur­/Milk of sulfur
Scabicide.
MOA: Inside insect, it becomes pentat­hionic acid that decreases pH of parasite cells.
 
Anti-s­cabies.
Scabies are mites under the skin. Pedicu­losis are lice.
