Digestion

DIGESTIONS --------------> process of breaking down complex orgainc molecules to be absorbed and utilized in body
(1) Physical/Mechanical Digestion
(2) Chemical Digestion - w/ enzymes
compents - ingestion, digestion, absorption (into tissue), egestion
Peristalsis - muscle contractions (mechanical digest)
Gland - (endocrine: secrete into blood, eg. hormone - pituatary) + (exocrine- secrete into own ducts, eg. salivary)
OVERVIEW
(A) food -> ATP for tissue and body func
(B) food(poylmer) ---hydrolysis + enzymes---> monomers
(C) Protection - mucosa lining + enzyme activation in digestive tract
(D) Gastrointestinal tract (food tube) - Oral cavity, Pharynx, Esphagous, Stomach, SI, LI
(E) Accessory Organs - teeth+tounge, salivary glands, liver, pancreas, gall bladder

Oral digestion

TOUNGE - move food around, assists in swallowing, taste buds
SOFT PALATE + UVULA -
TEETH - mechanical
SALIVARY BATERIA - has enzymes(chem digest), pH 6-7, 1st chem digest of polysaccarides
PHARYNX - treacha(wind pipe) +epliglottis, esophagus - mucoous lines, uses peristalis to move food to stomach
