The absolute value of a number is its distance from 0 on the number line. Denote the absolute value of a number with verical lines. Example: Absolute Value of -3 is written |-3|
Opposites*
Two numbers that are the same distance from 0 but in opposite direcr­tions from 0 are called opposites.

Addition of the opposite of a number

A combin­ation of constants and variable joined by arithmetic symbols
