What is Civics?

 
Civics is the study of the duties and rights of citizens.

What's the difference between a duty and a right?

Rights
Ex: Taxes, obey laws, school, defend the nation, jury
Ex: Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, voting

What is govern­ment?

Government is the ruling authority for a community.

What is citize­nship?

Citize­nship is the rights and duties of citizens.

- Dates back to more than 2,500 years to ancient Greece and Rome

- Natura­l-born citizens are any person born in the United States

- Natura­lized citizens can become a citizen using a legal process - MUST be able to read, write, and understand English.

- Citizen is a member of a community who owes their loyalty to a government and in turn are entitled to protection from the govern­ment.
(Example: Students sue Rhode Island over lack of Civics educat­ion).
