Overview & Plot Arc

Core Subject: A Special Olympics track event where true sports­manship and human empathy eclipse individual compet­ition.
The Setting: A packed stadium hosting the 100-yard dash for athletes with special needs.
Stanzas 1–2: Athletes gather after months of training. The race begins at the sound of the starter pistol.
Stanzas 3–4: The youngest runner stumbles, falls to the asphalt, and cries out as his dreams are "­dashed in the dirt."
Stanzas 5–6: The other eight runners stop, turn back, and help the fallen boy to his feet instead of chasing victory.
Stanzas 7–9: All nine athletes join hands, walk across the finish line together, and receive individual gold medals.
