Algebra I Cheat Sheet (DRAFT) by

This contains all of the notes i took in my algebra class.

This is a draft cheat sheet. It is a work in progress and is not finished yet.

Basics

Variable - In simple terms a number holder. a number that can change

Evaluating Expressions

To evaluate an expression you have to substitute a number into each variable and solve the expression.

Exa.
Evaluate expression where t = 1 b = 8
t + 5b
(1) + 5(8)
1 + 40
41

Dependent and Independent Variables

Dependent variable - A variable where its value is determined by the independent variable.
Independent variable - A variable that doesn't have have it's value changed

In the equation y = 6x x is the independent and x is the dependent

Combining Like terms

Term - a number, variable, or the product of a variable and number.
Terms are usually separated by a + or - sign.
In a term that has a variable the number that that variable is being multiplied by is called the coefficient.
When combining terms with the same variable(known as like terms) add/subtract the coefficient.
2x + 5x = 7x

Equations

Equation - expression that has at least one variable, one number and an equal sign
