Food was placed in front of the dog, and a tube in its mouth to measure the saliva.

Knew asquitition occurred when the dog salivated at the sound without the food being in front of it.

Classical Conditioning

Learning that is caused by the pair or association of two unrelated stimuli.
Key Words:
Acquisition: Describes when the pairing is learnt.
Extinction: The gradual weakening of the conditioned response by breaking association.
Generalisation: The tendency for the conditioned stimulus to be varied and still result in the conditioned response.
Discrimination: The ability to differentiate between the conditioned stimulus and other stimuli.
Spontaneous Recovery: When the conditioned response briefly reappears after being extinguished.
