Global Citizenship Study Material for 9th Grade with Pearson Curriculum

This is a draft cheat sheet. It is a work in progress and is not finished yet.

People and Places Around the World

Leisure activities = things people do for fun (e.g., sports, music, dance, festivals).
Many countries share similar hobbies → Example: football (soccer) is popular worldwide.
Sharing cultures helps build friendships and understanding.
Global connections happen when people exchange activities, traditions, and experiences.
K-pop is enjoyed in many countries outside Korea.

World Cup connects people through football.

Global Wealth and Poverty

Poverty = when people lack basic needs (food, shelter, clean water, education).
Causes of poverty: Lack of education. Unemployment. Natural disasters. Corruption or poor government management. Unequal distribution of wealth.
Some countries are very rich (e.g., developed nations) while others struggle with poverty.

Charities and NGOs try to reduce poverty by providing aid.

Global Health, Food, and Well-being

Types of farming: Small-scale farming → family farms, local food. Large-scale farming → industrial farms producing food for mass markets. Organic farming → no chemicals, eco-friendly. Monoculture farming → growing only one type of crop (e.g., rice or corn).
Well-being = being healthy in body and mind.
Food production affects health (nutritious vs. processed food).
Sustainable farming helps protect the environment and ensures future food supply.
Example:

Organic vegetables are healthier and eco-friendly.

Monoculture farming can damage soil and reduce biodiversity.

Global Trade, Ethics, Production, & Consumption

Global trade = buying and selling goods across countries.
Ethical trade = making sure workers are treated fairly and safely.
Some workers face unsafe conditions, low pay, or child labor.
Consumers (us) should be aware of where products come from.
Fair Trade chocolate/coffee ensures farmers are paid fairly.

Fast fashion often uses sweatshops with poor conditions.

Information, Technology, and Communication

Digital global communication = using the internet, social media, and technology to connect worldwide.
Benefits: Easy and fast communication. Sharing information and knowledge. Business growth and job opportunities. Cultural exchange and understanding. Distance learning and online education.
Students can video call friends from other countries.

Social media spreads news worldwide in seconds.
