Ordering Reality Check

Launch-window preorders sold out within minutes on October 16.
By about 5:30 a.m. PT that day, new US Apple Store orders for all 8 configurations showed January 25, 2027.
October 23 is the arrival date for opening-minute orders and the day stores start selling, not a promise for a new order.
Don't plan on a walk-in purchase on October 23; staff at some stores were reportedly told stock would likely be unavailable.
Hong Kong and mainland China stores limit each customer to 2 units and showed no dated ship estimate on October 17.
All delivery dates are snapshots. Check the seller's current estimate before paying.

Quick Cost Math

Monthly plan for 12 months: 12 x $19.99 = $239.88
Yearly plan: $199.99
Two years on the yearly plan: 2 x $199.99 = $399.98
One-time price: $399.00

One inner-display repair
  without AppleCare+: $999
  with AppleCare+:      $99   -> $900 difference

The cover layer that hides the crease can be
replaced by Apple or an authorized provider
($49 without / $19 with AppleCare+). It is not
a user-applied screen protector.

Check the one-time plan's coverage term on
Apple's US store before comparing it with the
yearly plan.

Hong Kong vs Mainland China

Mainland activation models listed by Apple: A3518, A3635, A3715, A3718, A3721. Confirm yours with the carrier.
Supporting mainland carriers: China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom; setup includes an in-store identity check.
Apple's mainland support guide says overseas-purchased models cannot install mainland carrier eSIM profiles.
Roaming with a Hong Kong number is not the same as activating a mainland number.
Returns differ: the mainland policy describes 14 calendar days for eligible returns; Hong Kong online orders have no ordinary change-of-mind returns.
HKD and RMB prices can't be subtracted: convert both with the same dated rate first.
