Definitions
Periapsis is the closest and Apoapsis is farthest. Eccentricity shape of an orbit, 0 is a perfect circle. Asthenosphere is upper mantle, below lithosphere. Lithosphere is crust and uppermost mantle. |
Geologic Formations
Highland continents: areas of unstable terrain with high peaks and valleys on Mercury, Venus, The Moon, and Mars. Escarpments: steep slopes/long cliffs that form because of vertical movement along a fault line. On Mercury. Dorsa (Winkle Ridges): low ridges, can extend for several hundred km. On Mercury, the Moon, and Mars. Mercury: when basaltic lava cools and contracts. Mars: due to compression stress in crust which caused a crack. One side then pushed on top of the other. |
Geologic Formations 2
Pancake volcanoes (Farra) on Venus, near highly deformed terrain, look like shallow impact craters raised above the surface, and form from one large slow eruption of silica rich lava. Arachnoids features on Venus resembling spider webs. Several ovals surrounded by cracks Corona is an oval shaped volcanic surface feature on Venus. Formed when rising hot material pushes the material into a dome shape then collapses due to magma leakage to the sides. Caldera depressions formed after evacuation of magma from underneath a volcano. |

Deimos
Rotational Period 30.4 hours. Semimajor Axis 23460 KM. Diameter 12 km. Orbital Period 1.263 days. Regolith 50m thick. Escape velocity 5.6 m/s. Apparent magnitude 12.45. Albedo 0.071. Misc. Is likely Deimos was an asteroid then Mars' gravitational field pulled it into orbit. Two craters have been named Swift and Voltaire both 3000m across. Named after writers that predicted existence of Martian moons. Orbit is circular and close to Mars’ equatorial plane. At a full moon would be bright as Venus. Discovered on 8/12/1877 by Asaph Hall. Named after greek figure Deimos, brother of Phobos, personified terror. Deimos translates to dread. Look Bit of a red hue. Would of been a sphere but chunk is missing on the bottom and top right |
