What is Melting Point?
The melting point (more accurately the melting range) of a compound refers to the temperature at which the substance transitions from the solid phase to the liquid phase. |
What Is It Used For?
Melting point can be used to identify a compound and determine it's properties, such as its purity. Pure substances will have a smaller melting range than impure substances. The melting point of a compound can give information about the intermolecular forces present in and governing the behavior of the compound. |
