Archimedes principle
When a body is fully or partially immerged in a fluid, it experiences a weight loss which equals to the buoyant force (upward force/upthrust) which is equal to the weight of fluid displaced by it. |
Application of Archimedes principle
1) Used in designing ships and submarines.
2) In Lactometers to find the purity of milk.
3) In Hydrometers to determine the density of liquids. |

Concept of float and sink
FLOAT:
realtive density
upthrust > weight of object
dfluid > dobject
SINK:
upthrust < weight of object
dfluid < dobject
density of substance is the mass per unit volume. |
