ACE INHIBITORS are the drug of choice for HF |
Reduce afterload |
Increase cardiac outputEnhance excretion of NA+ and water -Lower peripheral resistance and reduce blood volume |
Reduce cardiac output |
|
|
PRIMARY USE
Decrease BP & reduce blood volume |
Dilates veins |
ADVERSE EFFECTS
First-dose hypotension |
Cough |
Hyperkalemia |
Renal Failure |
|
|
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Blocks conversion of Angiotensin I to Angiotensin II by inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) in the lungs |
Remember Angiotensin II is responsible for constricting arteries and veins by binding to Angiotensin I receptors, thus blocking will lead to dilation of the veins and arterie; |
improves blood flow and decreases blood volume |
Reduces preload and afterload |
