Leisure |
Free time for individuals to spend as they please. |
Recreation |
Pursuit engaged upon during leisure time. Can include activities as diverse as watching TV. |
Tourism |
Activities of persons travelling to a destination& staying in outside their usual environment temporarily for less than 1 year for leisure and business purposes. |
Elements of geography
Spatical scale
- Used for describing with large approximation the size of a area.
International Scale:
The Dominant flow would be from North to South. (UK, South Africa, Korea)
National scale:
The identification of a country’s transport networks and tourist regions, population distribution.
Regional Scale:
Cities to countryside (K.L ke N9)
Local Scale:
Day trip (short distance) (Cheras ke Langat) |
The geographical components of the tourism system
There is three components in tourism system which are tourist generating regions , transit routes, and tourist destination regions.
Tourist generating regions
- Represent the main of tourists
- Have features that will stimulate tourists to visit a certain area and create demand on a destination
- The main tourist market and marketing
- Example: Eco-tour
Tourist destination regions
- Accommodation (penginapan)
- Travel agency
- Service function
- Entertainment
- Travel retailing products
Transit route
- Links the first two types
- Such routes represent the location of the main transportation of the tourist
industry (by bus/ car/boat/ferry/flight). |

Distance between countries |
The greater the distance, the smaller the volume of flow. |
International Connectivity |
Shared business, cultural ties. |
Attractiveness |
General attractiveness of one country for another. |

Those who travel within their country. |
International tourism |
Those who travel to a country other than in which they normally live. |
Inbound tourism |
Non residents who travel into another country for not more than one consecutive year & not less than 24 hours. |
Outbound tourism |
Residents who travel abroad to a particular country |
