Classi­fic­ation of Travellers

Definition & Concept

Leisure
Free time for indivi­duals to spend as they please.
Recreation
Pursuit engaged upon during leisure time. Can include activities as diverse as watching TV.
Tourism
Activities of persons travelling to a destin­ati­on& staying in outside their usual enviro­nment tempor­arily for less than 1 year for leisure and business purposes.

Elements of geography

Spatical scale
- Used for describing with large approx­imation the size of a area.

Intern­​at­ional Scale:
The Dominant flow would be from North to South. (UK, South Africa, Korea)

National scale:
The identi­fic­ation of a country’s transport networks and tourist regions, population distri­bution.

Regional Scale:
Cities to countr­yside (K.L ke N9)

Local Scale:
Day trip (short distance) (Cheras ke Langat)

The geogra­phical components of the tourism system

There is three components in tourism system which are tourist generating regions , transit routes, and tourist destin­ation regions.

Tourist generating regions
- Represent the main of tourists
- Have features that will stimulate tourists to visit a certain area and create demand on a destin­ation
- The main tourist market and marketing
- Example: Eco-tour

Tourist destin­ation regions
- Accomm­odation (pengi­napan)
- Travel agency
- Service function
- Entert­ainment
- Travel retailing products

Transit route
- Links the first two types
- Such routes represent the location of the main transp­ort­ation of the tourist
industry (by bus/ car/bo­at/­fer­ry/­fli­ght).
 

Spatial intera­ction of the components

Distance between countries
The greater the distance, the smaller the volume of flow.
Intern­ational Connec­tivity
Shared business, cultural ties.
Attrac­tiv­eness
General attrac­tiv­eness of one country for another.

type of destin­ation

Domestic tourism
Those who travel within their country.
Intern­ational tourism
Those who travel to a country other than in which they normally live.
Inbound tourism
Non residents who travel into another country for not more than one consec­utive year & not less than 24 hours.
Outbound tourism
Residents who travel abroad to a particular country
