Rubik's Cube Notation - Faces

Which Side?

Face
The side facing you.
R
Right
The right-hand side.
U
Up
The top side.
L
Left
The left-hand side.
B
Back
The back, the side facing away from you.
D
Down
The bottom side.
M
Middle
The middle, vertically between L and R.
E
Equator
The middle, horizo­ntally between U and D
S
Standing
The middle, vertically between F and B.

Rubik's Cube Notation - Rotations

U
Rotate the U face clockwise.
U'
Rotate the U face anticl­ock­wise.
U2
Rotate the U face clockwise twice.

Rubik's Cube Notation - Whole Cube Rotations

Rotate the entire cube so the F face becomes the U face
