Factors That Brought About Change

WW2: Conscr­ipted Black Soldiers fought for democracy and freedom. They then returned home to be treated as second hand citzens.
Education: Expansion of opport­unity for black students through black schools, colleges and univer­sities.
Liberalism: A rise in liberal political beliefs lead to a decline in colour prejudice.
Media: Rise in mass media such as television created awareness for the civil rights movement.
Migration: There was a migration of the black community from the South to the North due to the racism in southern states and growing opport­unities in northern cities.
Cold War: The systematic racism was the polar opposite of the ideals of freedom and democracy the US wanted to protect from Communism.
Organi­zation: Better organi­zation through groups such as -NAACP: National Associ­ation for the Advanc­ement of Coloured People -CORE: Congress of Racial Inequality -MIA: Montgomery Improv­ement Associ­ation
