Type 1 Conjug­ation

あ-line (ends in 'a')
+nai/ない (negat­ive)
い-line (ends in 'i')
+masu/ます (polite form)
う-line (ends in 'u')
dict­ionary form
え-line (ends in 'e')
+ru/る (capab­le)
お-line (ends in 'o')
+u/う (let's form)

Type 1 Conjug­ation example

For a verb ending in u (arau/­あらう), the a-line will change to wa/わ and so the negative form will be arawan­ai/­あらわ­ない。
 

Type 2 Conjug­ation

Verb Stem without ru/る
+ru/る (dicti­onary form)

Drop the ru/る and add the ending to conjugate type 2 verbs.

Type 2/Ichidan Exceptions

hairu/はいる
hashiru/はしる

suberu/すべる
These are conjugated using the type 1/godan verb rules.
