Two flasks-  both with nutrient rich broth that was boiled (pasteurized) where one was in a swan neck flask and one in a flask with open end. The flask with the swan neck trapped preexisting cells from the air from entering the flask whereas the open ended flask allowed cells from the air to enter. The swan neck flask never grew any cells and the open flask grew many. The spontaneous generation hypothesis predicted that both flasks would produce cells and cell theory predicted that only the flask that had pre-existing cells from the air would produce more cells.
