Bradbury decided to become an author at about age 12 or 13. Bradbury's family moved to Los Angeles, California in 1934. After graduating from high school in 1938. Since Bradbury was unable to afford to attend college, instead Bradbury went to the library 3 days a week for 10 years. Bradbury proceeded to publish short stories including his own fan magazine {\emph{Futuria Fantasia}}. Bradbury sold his first professional piece "Pendulum" in November 1941, a month before the United States entered World War II. Due to vision Bradbury was ruled ineligible for military service. Bradbury became a full-time writer by early 1945. Bradbury's first collection of short stories, {\emph{Dark Carnival}}, was published in 1947. That same year he married Marguerite "Maggie" McClure whom he met while she was working as a clerk at a bookstore. The couple had 4 children; Susan, Romana, Bettina, and Alexandra.
